Christmas Sweets and Desserts

………..for a sweet tooth Christmas is not only the time for indulging in tasty, substantial eating but it is also for the delight of those whose craving for sweet things may be appeased. Even though these are mainly children and the ladies, the male contingent do not always disdain the call of the creams, meringues, chocolates and icing sugars. So we are proposing a number of sweets or desserts that may be found in Italy at this time of the year which may interest you and you may try your hand at these recipes.
Mont Blanc
An easy and practical way of making a rather different looking cake is to take the good old Panettone or the Pandoro especially if your guests have presented you with too many. You may give them a new guise when you find them still on your hands. With the addition of a few artful touches using ice-cream, fruit, custard and icing sugar to give them a new look , you will find that they disappear in the winking of an eye.

There is another trick to be learnt to ease overburdened digestive systems. This is the sorbet, especially the lemon kind, of which there are a number of varieties. The idea is to take it easy between the first and second courses and eat your sorbet slowly while chatting with the guests on either side. The famous Limoncello was also invented for this purpose.

As for the typical cakes to be eaten at Christmas time, these may be the Strufoli, typical of the Amalfi or Campania region, the Sicilian Cassata and the Apple Strudel from the Northern area near Austria, not to mention many others like fruit in spirits……….
