A day for lovers St. Valentine's Day brings to mind sweet things, tender love and even aphrodisiac food to create and enjoy! But it has long been celebrated as a holiday and an excuse for exchanging gifts and flowers, sweets and good wishes. The origin of this day is sometimes linked to Roman days where a law prohibited celebrating marriages because soldiers did not want to leave their families behind. A priest called Valentine continued marrying off couples and was martyred because of his actions.
